Voice + data + video convergence

CCTV – Closed Circuit Television

  "The Electric Eye"

The other name for the CCTV is the electric eye- it is there 24 / 7 watching and doing whatever you desire!

In a typical CCTV environment, like a TV station, cameras record and then playback on televisions, only that this is for a private audience.

A typical CCTV set up includes a camera or set of cameras that are located at different but strategic areas that are to be monitored. They can continually record or monitor live an event or areas.

Recorded data are stored and manipulated on the DVR (digital video recorder).

Through a medium e.g. cables or wireless (wifi), intranet, internet or extranet, the recorded data can be transmitted or stored for later viewing both locally or remotely.

How does CCTV work?

The cameras continually record at rates of up to 100 frames per second. All the recordings are saved on the hard drive. Aat any stage or time, frames can be reviewed at will.

The cameras may have 'zoom, pan and tilt' facility. This allows an operator to monitor a specific area or item.
